How can I find good country walking routes in UK on the internet?

I am hoping to find the best route to walk from Chirk in Wrexham all the way to Edale in Derbyshire. The only method I know of on the internet is Google maps (get directions) and selecting walking on the drop menu. But this still follows roads whereas I want to follow walking and cycling paths and perhaps canals etc. What is the best way I can find this out online? How can I find good country walking routes in UK on the internet?
David S is right. You can't do it properly for nothing. There is no substitute for proper walking maps. The Landranger (1:50,000) series is very good. The Explorer (1:25,000) series is better but would cost a lot of money for the distance you are going.

The advantage of OS maps is that they show rights-of-way.How can I find good country walking routes in UK on the internet?
You really need to buy the Ordnance Survey Landranger maps covering the areas you are waking through; these are large scale maps showing all footpaths etc and the countryside in great detail. Buy them in large bookshops like Waterstones or from www,ordnancesurvey.co.uk

You will find basic info on the internet about national trails and long distance named footpaths:-
