Does anyone know how to install analytics tracking code onto google site pages?

the directions and help pages take me in circles. how do i get the code pasted into the html without it saying it is editing itself? hard to explain but i am sure anyone else who has tried this knows what i am talking about.Does anyone know how to install analytics tracking code onto google site pages?
