When using google for directions...?

I want to go to a bunch of garage sales tomorrow morning. I'm using craigslist to see where all of them are and I typed all the addresses into google directions (i just kept hitting the 'add destination' button) The directions take me all over the place though. Is there a way on google to make them take me to all of them in the shortest way possible?|||You'll probably have to enter them manually in the order you want to go to them. You may be surprised to know that computers have a pretty hard time with this kind of thing. It's known as the "Traveling Salesman" problem, and it's related to lots of different issues in computers and math. Some mathematicians devote their whole careers to the math associated with this problem.|||I'd suggest using mapquest for directions.

Can you get directions on Google Earth?

I was wondering if you can get directions on Google Earth? If so, how? Thanks. :)|||Don't know cause I don't use it, but I use the site below and it works great. :)|||copy and paste into word or just print it off!|||One way I have found of doing this is to use "print screen" command on the keyboard. It's not perfect, but it works well enough to email someone a map for example. You can crop the unwanted bits of the image in Photo Editor or something.

I also have used Adobe Acrobat to 'print' the image to a PDF file, then I selected and copied the bit that I wanted. But for that you have to have the full version of Acrobat.

How do I verify Driving directions I got on a site like google maps or mapquest?

Hello,

I do not own a GPS or cell phone with maps so I have to go off internet directions for now. I want to go to the Playdium in MIssisauga Ontario (from Niagara Falls, NY), I am unfamiliar with canadian highways. I would like to make sure these directions are correct before setting out, because sometimes sites like mapquest tend to not be specific enough or they lead you in a wrong direction sometimes, how do I do this, thanks!|||Best to check 2 or 3 sites. i have found this one to be best.|||pull out a real map from AAA or CAA, compare and start driving|||None of the websites can be 100% accurate, so you're gonna have to use ur intellect also when your going to places like these. If I were you, I would go to best buy or circuit city, and get a gps, these days they only cost 125 or 150, and they have all features...i bought one for 150, thats why I know. so, after that, if you dont feel like keeping it, you can go return it, after you come back...|||If you double check it with another site to verify it, or go into AAA. They usually give out maps for free.|||To verify, ask the location where you are going and be prpared for detours.|||Here's a link to the exact map of the Playdium. While I agree with others that MapQuest can be inaccurate at times, having a printout of the immediate area is better than having nothing at all.

Can I map several sets of directions on one map using google maps or mapquest or anything?

Good luck!

HOw do I delete an ad or an article that is posted on yahoo and google. Can u give the seperate directions.?

Can you leave links or seperate directions how to to do this! For both yahoo and google!|||You can't. Those are controlled by yahoo and google.

That said, if there's something consistent about the ad you want to block, you can force your browser (as long as you're not still using explorer) to not display it on your machine using a bit of CSS code. Here's some basic instructions: http://www.floppymoose.com/

How do maps (like on Google or Mapquest) know exactly where a house is and are able to give driving directions

How do maps (like on Google or Mapquest) know exactly where a house is and are able to give driving directions to/from it?|||How does mapquest know where a house is?

Simple answer, they guess. Thats right, they guess. Mapquest has an algorithm called Geocoding which uses the US post office data (for US maps) to guess (quire accurately typically) the latitude and longitude of the address you specify. Geocoding takes the address and compares it to the number of addresses the US post office says is on the current block, and guesses based upon how many addresses there are and the address supplied. For example, suppose you ask for 135 Main St. Now mapquest looks up the info it has for Main St as it is supplied by the US post office, which consists of the address on the end of the block (have you ever seen the signs that say "400" on a street sign?). Now suppose that 135 Main lies on the block that starts at 100 Main and ends at 400 Main. This means there are 300 addresses on this block. Each address is assumed to take 1/300th of the street space. Thus 135 Main will lie 35/300th's of the distance from the 100 end of the block to the other side of the block. Mapquest knows the latitude and longitude of the intersections and computes the lat/long of the address using these numbers. Further explanation here: http://www.mapquest.com/features/main.ad鈥?/a>

How is mapquest able to give driving directions?

Again, they guess. They have very good ways of guessing, but without a massive amount of computation it is not possible to give a perfect answer. Typically the method used for such driving directions is an example of something called a "greedy algorithm". I would hazard a guess that they actually use a form of an A* ("A Star") algorithm, but the technicalities are not important. Basically the algorithm takes a location and looks at all possible directions a person can go if they are at a specified location and chooses the direction which gets the person closer to their goal. They call this a "greedy" algorithm because it continually tries to get closer to the goal. Typically this type of search arrives at the best solution. Other considerations such as travel time are taken into consideration in the real calculations.

Is there a website like map quest or google map for Bus Routes Directions?

Is there some sort of a website, where you type in whatever address you're going into, but instead of 'by car' directions, they'll put in 'by bus' directions? I tried it with Google Maps, but they don't have information on my regions's bus routes.|||There are a few sites out there, but they're only in the development stages and not very accurate. See: http://www.ttc-tripplanner.ca or http://myttc.ca .

Another option is to use this TTC-Google map: http://crazedmonkey.com/toronto-transit-鈥?/a> You can't get directions to and from places (like in Google Maps) but if you put in your starting/ending address you can see the TTC routes that service the area, and then plan accordingly.

And, as Jon M mentioned, the TTC is working on a trip planning feature for their website which will hopefully be up soon.

Hope this helps.|||Currently, you can look up public transport information for the Toronto area on The Toronto Transit Commission website http://www3.ttc.ca/

It seems however that they are developing a "Trip Planner" for the site to make this task easier.

When you get directions from Google Maps, does it assume you're doing the speed limit?

Like in Canada the speed limit is 100 km/h on single lane highways and 110 km/h on double. Or does it assume you're doing 100 km/h the whole way?|||i know for me personally i dont ever base my trip by what google maps or mapquest or any of the map sites tell me. as far as driving time. take into consideration what time of the day youll be driving. what weather conditions youll be driving in. if your going to making any stops, etc. i would assume it baded on the slowest of the slowest drivers. i just used mapquest yesterday, it said i had an hour and 35 min trip ahead of me. i was there in under an hour. i left my house at 630 am and was there in about 45 min. mostly highway travel, but still. and even though it was a saturday and early morning driving, the same trip at 430 during the week would have taken me more than 2 or 2.5 hours. so there are alot of factors that come into play. just do alittle thinking before you drive and youll be fine|||Yes, I believe so.|||Google maps does use speed limits when that data is known. Otherwise, it uses the standard in the area for highway driving. Always allow at least an extra 10% driving time.|||Yes it assumes the speed limit for that given road (and usually takes into account how many traffic lights on that road, if applicable).|||wow! i guess its the posted limit. but i think yahoo maps are way way better than google or map quest.|||usually it assumes posted speed limit.

How Do I Save A Map With Directions that I Just Made On Google Maps?

How accurate is the time estimate on google map's Get Directions feature?

I am planning a roadtrip, and want to know approximately what town I will be in at midnight. How accurate is google map's time estimate?|||Yeah, they are ok depending on interstate/ highway involved. For short distances, they are all jacked up due to traffic problems

But as stated, you gotta factor in your driving habits. does your group stop to pee every 1 .5 hrs?|||well with any of them they dont factor stopping for fuel or to eat and at speed of 55 so its way off if add like 50 mph 100 miles wil be two hours would be closer|||its acually close but its rated at legal speed of 65 or 55 but you can estimate the time by the speed like your going 60 miles and 60 miles anhour it will take you a hour! so better way to git the right time is find out how many miles it is and avrage it to the speed you usually drive!|||I find it pretty good actually. I always stop more and take detours etc, but from all my travels, without any major traffic delays and following the legal speed limits it works fine for me.|||They are fairly accurate.

Add time for stops

If there is roadwork, traffic jams, then that much time will get added to the estimate

The estimates are for the posted speed limit.

I wonder if I could save a map with directions with google maps?

Should I also have to have an internet plan if I'm using GPS bluetooth device ( the one you can attach it to your key chain ) connected to my phone? If no, how come the car GPS don't require an internet connection?

Thanks in advance|||I don't understand the second question about the GPS bluetooth device as I am not familiar with such devices.

However, the typical in-car Navigation devices have the maps all contained internally to the system. Granted, these maps will become slightly outdated as changes are made to roads, bridges, etc, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal for its purpose. The GPS signal just tells you where you are (that is quite simplified for what is actually happening). Google maps uses information on their servers to calculate the maps and display them since the processing for this is on their side and not yours.

As for saving a Google map, are you suggesting pulling map/directions on Google, then saving it to your car's navigation system or on your phone or something? I do not know if that is possible, although the link to the directions can definitely be forwarded to an email account which should be able to open the map/directions on a phone. I know of no Navigation systems that allow that, but I am hardly an expert on what features are available on new systems.

1) You are on the My Maps page. Make sure you have the map with all of your points on it selected. (It's a checkbox, by default called "My Saved Places")

2) In the top left corner, just below the picture that says "Google Maps", there is a bar. It says "Get Directions" and "My Maps". Click the "Get Directions" link.

3) Delete all the stuff it has in there by default (unless by some random chance it's exactly what you want...)

4) Click inside box A. Right click on the first marker. Click "Directions from here".

5) Right click the second marker. Click "Add a destination".

6) Continue adding destinations until you've done them all.

7) Click the "Get Directions" button.

8) Highlight the directions that appear. Copy and paste them into some other program (word, wordpad, notepad, etc).

9) Save the directions.

What is the average driving speed for Google Maps directions?

They calculate it by assuming that you will be driving at the speed limit of the given roads.|||Most maps when getting directions ask you for the parameters you want.

Fastest, scenic, coastal, stops, diversions, motor ways or not, Tolls or not, A roads, B roads etc.

Then the software works it out using the parameters you have stipulated.

I have family in Cornwall about 300 miles away. I tried out of curiosity mostly, different route scenarios and found that there was a three hour difference between the fastest and the slowest times although the distance was within a 30 mile + or - difference.|||What the other guy said.

It takes no note of anything other than the legal limit for roads; so whether that road is a bullet straight hard top or a twisty single track road they'll say, in the UK, that you will be driving at sixty.
